Adam's First Wife Was Never Cut From Genesis — the Real Clay Tells a Darker Story

For centuries, people have looked at the first pages of Genesis and wondered about a strange gap: if Genesis 1 describes male and female being created together, why does Genesis 2 tell the story of Adam being alone before Eve appears? Somewhere in that gap, a legend was born—and her name became Lilith.

But the real story is far stranger than the popular version. This video follows Lilith across nearly four thousand years of surviving evidence, from ancient Sumerian clay tablets and Babylonian wind-demons to the Dead Sea Scrolls, Jewish incantation bowls, medieval rabbinic writings, and the famous Alphabet of Ben Sira. Along the way, we examine one of the most repeated claims online: that a secret Sumerian tablet proves Lilith was Adam's first wife and that she was deliberately removed from Genesis. The evidence tells a very different story. We look at the disputed Sumerian figure associated with the huluppu tree, the single appearance of lilit in Isaiah, the demon lists preserved at Qumran, and the clay bowls that were buried upside down beneath ancient homes to keep Lilith and other spirits away. Then comes the surprising turning point: the first known text to explicitly make Lilith Adam's wife appears not in ancient Sumer, but centuries later in a medieval Hebrew work that may have been satire. And the story doesn't end there. Lilith eventually moves from demonology into Kabbalah, European art, feminist thought, and modern popular culture. What fascinates me most is that there may never have been a missing woman waiting to be discovered. There was simply an unanswered gap—and generation after generation, people filled it with their own fears, beliefs, and hopes. This is the story of what the ancient records actually say, what they don't say, and how a demon of the wind became one of history's most recognizable symbols of rebellion and equality. 📚 Sources & Further Reading : ▶Bible & Ancient Texts ◆Genesis 1:26–31 — Sefaria https://www.sefaria.org/Genesis.1.26-31 ◆ Isaiah 34:14 — Sefaria https://www.sefaria.org/Isaiah.34.14 ◆ Alphabet of Ben Sira — Lilith and Adam https://www.sefaria.org/Sheet.95978 ◆ Alphabet of Ben Sira — Alternate translation https://voices.sefaria.org/sheets/47906 ▶Archaeological & Museum Sources ◆British Museum — Burney Relief / Queen of the Night https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/W_2003-0718-1 ◆ Delaware Art Museum — Lady Lilith by Dante Gabriel Rossetti https://emuseum.delart.org/objects/6457/lady-lilith ▶Additional Research ◆Sefaria — Lilith: Women To Be Reckoned With https://www.sefaria.org/sheets/163219 ◆Sefaria — Lilith and Medieval Jewish Sources https://www.sefaria.org/sheets/272639 #Lilith #AdamsFirstWife #BiblicalMysteries #AncientHistory #BibleMysteries #AncientMysteries BS231AR
